About

Boy Meets East is what happens when a Black American from New York - who has lived everywhere from the North of England to Spain - decides to learn Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin at the same time and film the whole thing honestly.

No expertise. No pretending. Just a very specific seat and a camera.

Boy Meets East isn’t about mastering a culture. It’s about meeting it - with respect, curiosity, and an open heart. Because when you stop trying to be perfect, you start to truly connect.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We’re not experts. We’re explorers.Boy Meets East was built on one simple belief — that curiosity can bridge cultures. We don’t lecture from above; we learn from within. Every video, article, and conversation is about finding beauty in the unfamiliar and connection in the ordinary.
Our goal is to make East Asian culture feel close enough to touch — whether you’re halfway across the world or watching from your living room.

BUILT WITH
CURIOUSITY

The Story

It started as one person’s attempt to learn Japanese… and became something much bigger. What began as a side project turned into a full-scale creative universe spanning YouTube, podcasts, and community. From exploring ramen etiquette to decoding anime, from learning your first kanji to understanding a centuries-old tradition — Boy Meets East exists to make the intimidating feel inviting.
Each discovery is another golden seam in the “Kintsugi of Cultures.”

Your Boy

The one who gets lost so you don’t have to.The camera’s rolling, the subtitles are questionable, but the curiosity’s real.

Learning CJK, falling in love with ramen, and chasing the moments that connect us all.

This is your boy — learning, laughing, and figuring it out one mispronounced word at a time

Tray Epps

The mind behind the mission.Through film, food, and language, I’m chasing one question: what does it really mean to meet the world halfway?

I created Boy Meets East to understand what makes cultures connect — and what that says about who we are.

I'm looking to build bridges between worlds through story — sometimes funny, sometimes deep, always real.
