Kabuki

Traditional Japanese theatrical form with origins in early 17th century street performance. Now a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Performed exclusively by male actors (including the onnagata who play female roles). Defined by the hanamichi walkway through the audience, the mie dramatic pose, shamisen music, and the kata codified gesture vocabulary.
